Saitual District Jail
Saitual District Jail is situated at Rulkhai Ram, Saitual, at latitude 23.710630° N and longitude 92.957706° E. It is a newly established correctional facility with a sanctioned capacity of 68 inmates (58 male and 10 female inmates).
Brief History: The jail building was constructed under the project titled “Re-construction of District Prison/Jail, Saitual”, with the Public Works Department (PWD) serving as the implementing agency. The facility was initially declared as Sub Jail, Saitual. Following the declaration of Saitual as a district headquarters in 2019, the Government of Mizoram subsequently notified it as District Jail, Saitual with effect from 01.05.2023.
Construction of the jail was undertaken using funds provided under the 13th Finance Commission. The project commenced during 2011–2012 and was completed in 2017. However, the facility did not initially have a separation wall between the male and female sections as required under prison norms. Consequently, the Prisons Department proposed the construction of a separation wall under the SASCI scheme.
Funds for the said separation wall were allocated during the financial year 2024–2025, and construction was completed in May 2026. With the completion of this work, the physical infrastructure of the jail premises has now been completed. An inspection of the completed facility was conducted on 01.06.2026.
